Historic Wedding Venues

Historic Places, Rustic Charms, New Age Love Stories

A lot of people focus on every little detail that happens during the road to the big day. Whether every step is captured on camera or through instant posts online, people close to the couple always love to hear the behind the scenes of the most romantic day ever. While it is but natural and always entertaining to do so, I always love to go far beyond the moments after the engagement and before the actual wedding day. I always love to ask, “How did you guys meet?” or “What’s the best date you ever shared?” or “What’s the most memorable thing about (bride or groom)?”

There’s something about history that fascinates me. I don’t know if it’s the thrill of knowing how things came about, or the touching, nostalgic look on their faces as they scan through months or years of happy days to find the answer to my questions. I also love hearing stories of the first time they introduced each other to their families or even to their friends. There’s always a bit of comedy, a bit of humiliation, and a whole lot of love from these recollections. I believe then that it is but fitting to look into some of the most popular wedding venues that have in themselves a rich history to boast.

Tuscany Tenuta

Tuscany Tenuta

This little slice of paradise in Italy is an old soul bride’s dream. Overlooking the greens of Tuscany, it is the perfect venue for a luxurious wedding with the perfect mix of history. It was built in 1848 by Prince Hohenlohe and was continually transferred into the arms of different masters, until Ferruccio Ferragamo discovered the place in 1895 and was eventually bought by his family in 1993. It has then seen the worst of the Second World War, but has now been fully restored to its modern grandeur. Its rustic charm is further enhanced by well-maintained farmhouses and villas that have all the comforts of the high tech and high fashion world.

For a more romantic feel during your wedding, try arranging a photo shoot in its Italian gardens with its ornate fountain and traditional architecture. You can also try having a few memories taken on its wine path or wine cellars to fully recreate the charm and glory of the medieval era.

Hidden Chateau and Gardens

Hidden Chateau and Gardens

Situated in West Hills California, the venue’s name does not do its popularity justice. Set on the building originally built in 1934-1936 by Francis Lederer, a silent actor, the Hidden Chateau and Gardens host a variety of weddings and parties for those looking for an intimate but fun night with their beloved family and friends. The building is known to be a Historical Cultural Monument by the Los Angeles Cultural Heritage Commission. The stone facility has two inside rooms for weddings and have in-house professional staff that offer interior decoration services not just for events, but for homes as well.

Archways can be found on-site leading to a beautiful gazebo that is perfect for a pre- or post-wedding photo shoot. It adds a balance to the stone and brick architecture of the main building and provides a variety in location for your wedding memories.

The Nixon Library

the nixon library

The Nixon Library is a place that has stood witness to the most moving of ceremonies, beginning from its dedication in 1990 to the 37th president of the United States, Richard Nixon. It serves as home to the President’s collection of presidential papers and other White House records. While it might seem to bear an overly political history, the place boasts of well manicured lawns and gardens that are ideal for a sunset ceremony. The reflecting pool provides a romantic view and feel to every event and the well-kept walkways are perfect for photo opportunities. Indoor venues are available for receptions big and small and the place has a well-equipped catering kitchen for your food and beverage concerns.

The gazebo in the Nixon Library grounds is the actual gazebo where Tricia Nixon Cox was married in the White House. It is an ideal setup for couples who want not just to remember the memory of their day, but also share a piece of a similar, binding history of love and commitment.

Sand Acre Estate

Sand Acre Estate

Said to be Marilyn Monroe and Joe Di Maggio’s secret refuge during Hollywood’s Golden Age, Sand Acre Estate has been restored to a new and exciting splendor that caters to today’s most epic weddings. The estate was built in 1929 and has a Spanish-style theme and sits atop Palm Spring’s Movie Colony. Since its creation, the estate has undergone extensive renovation and now houses modern amenities like plasma TVs, an in-ground pool and hot tubs. Its Old World charm is showcased by a flowing fountain in a petite garden and wood trims and sand-colored walls for its interiors.

The two-story home has five bedrooms that can be utilized by the couple. Each provides a different view of the estate. It also has a tower room with a Juliet balcony that provides a spectacular view of the surroundings. Outside of Sand Acre, the Movie Colony offers great spots for sightseeing, art tours and night life.

There are a lot more historic sites around the world that can provide a perfect backdrop to your ‘I dos’. Celebrating a lifetime of commitment in a picturesque, historically-celebrated place makes you even more excited to make your own mark in the world, create your own love story that will be talked about by generations to come.

I believe there’s a great sense of fulfillment in being able to appreciate, celebrate and make history. We are all taught to live in the now and look forward to the future, but sometimes we must also take some time to look back and learn from what the people of old have experienced. We can never really tell what lessons they have for us or if all these lessons will work in our own situations. But who doesn’t want to hear a good, old-fashioned love story, right?
